As RandyL mentioned, the V on the windscreen technique is valid if only
there is no crosswind. Do you know how often there is no crosswind in real
life? Pretty much never.

In real life, (and the sim) you gradually develop a sense of the direction
of the movement of the aircraft over it's ground track. The first time I
could *really* "feel" it in real life was flying at night.

The lights down below weren't just going underneath me, they were also
sliding from left to right. I recall that being an important moment in my
kinetic sense of flying.

You like your "between the knees" method because the V target method is
highly flawed and the "knees" thing is closer to the correct way to do it.

I don't use the between the knees thing because the knees point straight
ahead and in real life you'll rarely point straight ahead on final, you'll
be in a crab. Program a good crosswind and try landing with your knees and
you'll see it no longer works

In real life you might use the center of your body as the "rear sight" and
your ground track as the "front sight".
